Basically, the normal day to day recipes like pulao, curries are switched to fasting by selecting the upvas ingredients. one such hugely popular north Indian fasting recipe is sama rice pulao or also known as farali pulao.

Today I am going to share  much easier recipe where you do not have to plan and you will have the dish within minutes. moreover, you can also make it with choice of veggies to make it tastier and healthy. You can serve it as it is but tastes great with a choice of raita or aloo gravy sabji.

Preparation time- 10 min

Cooking time- 10 min

Serve- 2 person

Cuisine- vrat ka khana


1 cup samak rice or sama ka Chawal

1 tspn desi ghee

½ tspn jeera

1 tbspn chopped carrot

2 tbspn chopped beans

One chopped potato

Cauliflower florets small size

Sendha namak

Bhuna jeera paowder 1 tspn

1 tspn grated ginger

2-3 chopped green chilli

1 tbspn chopped tomato

Dhaniya patti for garnishing


Firstly, in a large bowl soak 1 cup sama rice for 5 minutes.

in a large kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee, add 1 tsp cumin, 1 tspn grated ginger 2-3 green chilli. Saute well.


add 1  potato, 1 tspn carrot, 2 tbspn beans, 1 tspn toamto and cauliflower  and saute for 2 minutes or until they are half cooked.

further add soaked sama rice. make sure to drain off the water completely.

Saute well samak rice till absorb ghee and add salt to taste and bhuna jeera powder.

pour in 2 cup water, and mix well.

cover and simmer for 4-5 minutes or until the sama rice is cooked completely.

Enjoy samak rice Pulav or veg pulav with curd.
